Farmall 1466 clutch replacement

Hi all,
I"m looking at a model 1466 that the owner says needs a clutch. Does the tractor have to be split, or can the clutch be installed from underneath?
Any help is appreciated.

You have to split the tractor. If it doesnt have cab it is really easy to do. Even with the cab they are not that bad
 
Hi Stewart, thanks for the quick reply. When you say easy to do-I take it that means if I was using special jacks to hold the two halves up, a large hoist, etc.

I only have an automotive engine hoist/stands, and a Farmall Model-M with hay forks on the back, that serves as my occasional fork-lift. I know this will probably sound dumb, but would that be even close to sufficient?

We have a splitting stand. It is hard to describe. Maybe other people on this site can post a pic for you. Hold the back end up with a bottle jack or floor jack. put a jack stand under the drawbar to prevent the rear end rolling backwards when disconnected from the front. I ll try to post a pic of my splitting stand. It doesnt take much.
 
I saw it on craigslist. I do not know anything about it. Called the guy and he said somebody was coming to look at it.
 
Well, I'm #2 in line, so if he don't git it, I will...

Any idea how much a clutch replacement runs?

I heard from some tractor mechanics in Granger to figure on about $1,000 for a clutch, and maybe as again as much if they have to completely rebuild the injector pump as well. I would try to jump start it first to see if it even runs. If it's locked up, forget it.
 
unfortunately (for me) some other lucky s.o.b got it. It looks like it would have been a great deal, but there's always another one down the road.
