I am looking to possibly purchase a Farmall A tractor with an original and reported working exhaust lift. My question is can the exhaust lift control valve and cylinder be removed and the supply port in the exhaust manifold secured to operate the tractor with the system removed? Will the exhaust manifold supply valve require any modifications to keep it closed or would it be better to purchase and install a exhaust manifold that does not have the lift valve to operate the tractor without the system installed? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The pressure valve is screwed into the manifold and with a torch getting it hot ccan sometimes work. You will be better off in the long run to get a new manifold and selling yours on e=bay. Now you said the system works which makes the part more valuable as you cannot get new ones and parts are verry hard to find. If you get the tractor bought send me an e-mail i would trade a new manifold and shipping.

Thanks Gene. Was the exhaust lift all a factory installed attachment and identified with a tractor serial number suffix or were some of the systems dealer add ons? The tractor I'm looking at has two manual lift arms on the left with a shorter arm to the rear. Seller says the system works but he uses the manual arm to raise the L59 Woods mower deck. I have only seen one picture of the tractor but may travel to look at it after seller sends additional pictures and info.

He has the cultivator lift assy still on the tractor. The rear lever was used for setting the depth of the rear tooling. Our 47B came from the factory with the system i never did ask if it was orsered by my father or probably the dealer as Dad apparently ordered it with the cult. Tractor was delivered in August 47 but they didnt put the cult on till spring of 48 but the exhaust system was factory installed. I bought another B that came with hand lift cult but later owner got a new cult that waws exhaust lift so that one would have been dealer installed. So the answer is it came both ways. Lots of the systems have been used to lift the mowers. Any more questions i will be glad to help.
