Removing races on MD front wheel

Pulled the hubs off my MD. All races, bearings, seals need replacing. Got the kit from CIH. Question: How do you get the races out of the hub? There's some kind of sheetmetal disk behind the race that would prefer not to destroy in the process. Looks like some kind of retainer to keep the grease in the bearing. Any comments, suggestions appreciated.

Clean it out well and you will see a place between the races that is notched to allow a long brass or soft iron punch to access the race from the opposite side. Punching in these slots drives the race out and the seal stuff as well.
Turn over and do the opposite side to get the outer bearing outer race out. Jim

There should be new seals in your kit. If not, get new ones. You will certainly bugger up the old ones when you remove them.

Thanks gentlemen, for all your help. Everything came out like a charm, and the new stuff is now installed.

The grease seal should stay on the spindle, along with the inner cone which is a press fit.
