Sorry for sounding dumb but I don't usually work on internationals removed the hydrostat from a 186 hydro and got it rebuilt at a hydrostat shop. After installing it back in the tractor with the tractor running the speed lever going to the servo control rod gets really stiff like it is building up excessive pressure just wondering if anyone has any ideas of what may be going on.Thanks

I had this happen when servicing a new 186 one time. Don't remember exactly how I solved it but it was binding at the cam itself. You can determine if problem is with cam or upper control by ( WITH RANGE LEVER IN NEUTRAL) unhooking the link at the trans and move cam from there. It seems to me I had to increase the clearance between cam and orfice on servo cyl by using a lighter washer on the pivot shaft. No abnormal pressure was involved. Just an idea. Been many many years. At any rate, it was very hard to move SR lever but I cured it.

thanks for your reply Pete do you remember if you had to drop the cam assembly right out of the transmission.I phoned the hydro shop that rebuilt it but didn't get much help from them Thanks again

Ahhhh, racking my brain here. I',m thinking I dropped the bottom cover to see the cam, then tried to push the cam away from servo cyl to imitate what the orfice does when it is under pressure. I should have asked also, does it move freely when engine is not running. Anyway, by applying pressure you may be able to see what is causing it to move hard. Might even be the link binding that moves cam. I may have tweeked that some also.. Can't remember.
