Which manual?

Im about to undergo a engine rebuild on my super a, which manual would be better the IH engine manual or ITs repair manual?

The I&T manual is great if you are a mechanic. You have to read carefully because they do not explain things. The information is there, but not repeated and they expect you to know how to do things like fit rings and pull bearings.

The IH parts book may be of some value but I've always relied on the dealer to look up the right part (lot's of new numbers for obsolete parts).

I agree with the gentleman below. Anytime I can, I buy shop manuals from a couple different sources for the same tractor. Where one manual lacks, the other manual makes up the difference.

I never ask the dealer for a part number, except on the rare occasion when I don't have it with me(usually done by telephone). The old part number has always crossed to the new, provided it is not NLA, but I suppose there could be exceptions. Occasionally I have to look at his computer, if there is some question--it helps both of us if I am familiar with his diagrams, which are identical to the parts book. I could not manage without one.
