Farmall CUB purchase

Hey all!
Long time, no post....seems like I"m always busy.
Working on purchasing an early Farmall CUB. Has a Woods 59L belly mower under it. Any of you guys/gals using this set-up for mowing your lawns? I"m kind of particular about my lawn....but spending too much time on my John Deere GT225 with 42" deck. Am I going to be happy with this new set-up (I"ll keep using the Deere for trimming around the trees etc.)
So here"s the question. This "new" CUB has hydrauliclift for the deck but doesn"t have the one-point lift on the back. Life is changing for me, and I"m going to be putting out a big garden, pumpkin patch etc. next spring. What are my options for using this cub for doing more work? Can I add a one point lift, or are there implements for it as is? I"m thinking I need a one bottom plow, disk, cultivator etc. Can I get a hand lift and use these impliments as is, or do I need to retro-fit a 3 point or one point hydraulic hitch to this tractor? Anybody using a cub without the rear hitch to pull implements?
Thanks.

The Woods 59 will give a very smooth even cut if set up right and kept sharp.

There are attachments available for the cub, but are time consuming to change.

There are 3 point adapters available, but you have to be careful what you use, the cub will only handle a 12 inch plow, and the pto runs backward and at engine speed.

You can also buy a 1 point hitch from another cub (not from a lowboy though) and put on it, but you will need a different drive for the mower when you do.

Try farmallcub dot com for a lot of help and info on the cub.

...and the special fast hitch drive is extremely rare and difficult to find on its own. If you ever find one it's usually paired with a mower deck.

Plus, you still gotta take the mower off, which is bull work no matter how you slice it. That mower deck is HEAVY, and unless you have the front wheels slid WAY out, you can't back over it (wheels hit the spindles or crush the belt).

Frankly, I'm not sure a Cub with a Woods 59 deck is much faster than a dedicated mower with a 42" deck. The Cub will only do 3MPH, while the mower will do 5-6MPH.

If you have any low-hanging trees, you better be quick and flexible. I have cracked my skull and impaled myself in the chest with so many branches I've lost count.

Also stopping and backing up is a huge investment in time. You gotta push the clutch, wait for everything to stop and hope the momentum from the mower doesn't push you into anything, shift, back up, and repeat the process to get headed in the right direction again. I quickly developed a pattern for mowing my lawn that only involved backing up twice. On sharp corners I swing out and make a loop in the other direction.

For wide open areas the Cub makes a great mowing machine. If you have a lot of trees, you might want to hang on to the smaller, more maneuverable machine.

If by "lawn", you mean a real lawn with grass, trees, etc, not just a bunch of weeds and wild grasses, just about any riding mower is better than a Cub because the Cub is not as agile or maneuverable. You will spend more time trimming around trees than if you used your mower for everything. The yard around my house is about 30000 sq ft. I can't imagine using my Super A and 59L mower on it, the Cub is not that much more maneuverable. As mkirsch says, if you use the Cub for anything else, the mower has to be removed. I do use mine for large unobstructed areas, where the weeds and grass are allowed to grow for a while. Remember also, for a real lawn you need turf tires.

I'd recommend a ZTR mower in place of the Cub or JD. I have a JD with a 46" mower deck and a Dixon with a 50" for my 2 acres... I have the tiller on the JD now and I doubt the mower deck will ever go back on unless the Dixon is broke down. Any trimming left to do is a little with a Weed Eater.

Cub the Caddy for cutting lots of grass . What I liek so much about mine . Is that after cutting my 3 acres I do not feel beat up. The long wheel base gives me a smooth ride !
I,ll take my cub any day over the 0 turns !!! Ride COMFORT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use my 79 cub to do some spike tooth and other agri use and I still had the mower on it.It didn't seem hard to use or hard to move around
