SMD Fuel Pump Leaks

When you have several various leaks on a SMD fuel pump in the different covers, what do you need to do to stop the leaks? Is this something that can be done on the tractor without any special tools or does the pump need to come off and go to a pump shop? This is my first diesel and am not sure what I am doing. I have 19 other farmalls and I have been through everything on them. Just new to the diesel side.

Thanks in advance.

If it seems to be leaking diesel fuel the issue is internal. There is not supposed to be diesel fuel in the body of the pump at all.
If there is the Plunger and rack system is ni need of seals at least.
If it is engine oil, it is a matter of changing gaskets etc. The covers are not critical in position, so making gaskets from new bulk material is fine.
The pump does not share oil with the engine. It is filled separately and has a level plug (or petcock) on the outside to check level.
If it is filling it is likely to be filling with diesel. Jim

It is almost always the primary pump seal that leaks, or if it is an A pump, the scavenger valve may be stuck. In either case, it will fill the pump body while not running. Most will just shut off fuel tank valve when stopped for any length of time if that is the case.
