Water in the oil Super A

I just came back from moths of being away to go to change the oil in our super A, upon draining i found masses of water in the oil i would say at least a half of gallon, it seemed recent because nothing was rusty, I took the head off the head gasket seemed ok, I just dont kno if its the block or heador something else. There is a good chance of it being natural rain that got in due to neglence on other parties i will not mention im not sure!, A procedure for compression testing the block?

I wouldn't discount the rain issue.

First question, what did you have in the radiator? If there was an antifreeze mix and you're getting plain water out of the crankcase, then it will be a matter of condensation if it's justa little water, or rainwater if a more significant amount.

On the flip side if you had plain water in the radiator (or if you had an antifreeze mix and that's what you're finding in the crankcase) then there's more looking around to do. Since you had the head off, I'd assume the tops of the pistons were dry. Now that it's back on, go ahead and refill, and start looking arooud for leaks. Easiest and first place to look is by taking off the pan. If it's seeping around the bottoms of the sleeves, then you can suspect the o-rings. If coming down out of the oil gallery you can suspect the head, the crankcase or the gasket.

As far as pressurizing your cooling sytem to check it, you'd have to rig a cap to take air pressure and find a way to block your overflow if you do to that the air doesn't just run out without building pressure.

If you don't find any leaks, I'd refill and giver a few good warm runs and keep an eye on it. And don't forget to retorque your head gasket.

+Drop the oil pan and look at the sleeves for droplets of coolant. Those Doughnut seals get like an old shoe left out in the weather. The engine has to come apart to replace them if they're leaking. Hal

Antifreeze, i couldnt tell what was in the oil, couldnt tell if it was rusty water or green rusty water

you kno where i could find the torque specs?

You should have pulled the pan and not the head. With the pan off you can tell real quick if the seals on the sleeves are leaking. Setting in the rain wont get water in the pan. Now that you have the headoff i would justpull the sleeves and replace the o-rings. If the headgasket would have been the culprit you should have seen it when the head was removed.

The book that's available for purchase all over the place says 65 ft-lbs, but in the meantime the conventional wisdom is that the official IH recommendation went up to 80 ft-lbs somewhere along the line. Never saw it in print, but that's what I do and things are running reliably.
