Hi guys, long time follower of this site, and have learned alot. Now I need some help with a tractor broke down fin the field, and for the first time I can"t find any info.

Please pardon me if I don"t get nomenclature exactly right.

We snapped a tie rod end, the shaft that goes through the bolster, out in the field. We got the end off the tie rod easily enough, but are really struggling getting the shaft out of the bolster.

We"ve tried using a bottle jack from the bottom while supporting the top of the bolster to try to press it up, but nearly took the front end off ground and the shaft wouldn"t budge.

Is there some kind of special trick to get this out? Thanks a lot for any help you can provide, we"ve just got a few acres left to till before we can start planting beans, and we need this tractor to do it.

Take your maul and hold against one side of the bolster, take a sledge hammer and give the bolster a good smack on the opposite side and the tie rod end will "squirt" out of there like you wouldn't belive.

I wouldn't go beating h3ll out if it with a hammer and wouldn't heat it either till I tried a good quality air hammer with a flat ended bit in it. It should vibrate it out, no damage from heat or hammerblows.

Thanks for the tips guys. We ended up using steady down pressure (the part that goes through the bolster is tapered), put a torch to it, and a few light taps on the bolster and it popped right out. Got the replacement tie end from Yesterday's Tractors a couple days later, and we're back in business just in time for the fields to dry out. Again thanks a lot to those who helped.
