I was rebuilding the zenith carb on my Farmall A. All was going well, until I broke the venturi. Where do I find a replacement, and how was I supposed to get it out? (venturi no. 15, IH part 62171D)

Manufacturer's part number (Zenith) is C38-51-15.

See if Zenith Fuel systems can help you or refer you to someone that can.

The venturi is supposed to just lift outm but due to dirt and crud building up around it, they quite often DO become very stuck. Soaking the entire carburetor in GOOD cleaner (not Berrryman's) overnight will usually loosen up that crud. If that doesn't work, you can use a small propane torch to heat the area around the venturi, and then spray that area with penetrating oil while it cools down, and then just walk away from it long enough for it to cool completely, after which you should be able to slowly get it to move by gently trying to turn it with a pair of small channel locks. Those pot metal venturis are very fragile and WILL NOT stand up to any kind of abuse.

Oops, Sorry about that. Off on a slight Tangent...Kinda the same Question, I've been rebuilding 3 IH E12 Carbs, (Can't never have enough spares) and I'm noticing that All of the Venturis seem to be almost welded in or glued. Even after a parts cleaner bath????Yet all the manuals show them to be replaceable. Strange...

Marks tractors has them. I did the same thing two years ago. I think Mark has ads in Red Power Magazine. He may be on the web I'm not sure.

Yes, that is what I am talking about. Time to fire up the torch and get 'er hot, let it cool a bit and then quench with PB Blaster. When it is cool enough to touch, put your channel locks on that venturi and very slowly and gently try turning it back and forth. It will move very little at first (you will think it didn't work) but gradually it will turn more and more until you can just lift it out. Once it is out, it's time to put the carb back into the cleaner again.

OK, now I can see where I went wrong. I'm still looking for a replacement. When i get it, do I just slide it in, or is there something more to it than that. And, There is a guy who lives just out of town that has a bunch of junked-out Farmalls that he sells parts off of. How about picking up a used one? Thanks.

Nothing wrong with a used one, just make sure it IS the same as what you have now. Somewhere on the one you have is a part number. Find one that has that same part number and you're good to go. The replacement just sits in the hole. Drop it in and go.
