Anyone else notice the flush face bobcat style couplers look similar in concept to 50s IH "breakaway and self-sealing" couplers as used on 300/400 tractors? most were switched to pioneer style so many people have never seen the original style.

what are the advantages and disadvantages of modern flush face, early IH, and pioneer?

pioneer sure wins the common category.

I would imagine that the Bobcat couplers are designed for better flow, because a lot of the attachments they hang on there are hydraulically powered.

Of course a certain element of society would try to tell you that it's a conspiracy by Bobcat to sell you their proprietary connectors... Frankly, I can't imagine they sell that many replacement connectors to recoup the cost of the initial development, let alone produce a "nefarious" profit for Bobcat.

Anyway, the Pioneer is simply the "standard." It probably wasn't the best at the time, but maybe it was the cheapest, or the Pioneer sales people managed to convince some major tractor manufacturers to use their couplers. However they managed to do it, they got lots of their couplers out there and in use, so they became the standard.
