McCormick International 240

there be a auction coming up that has a 240,, in its work clothes,,for sale. tires are decent, decals and paint are faded but good, but still the metal is nice and it runs good.
i m not familier with the 240 so any help with what to look for,,good and bad,, would be appreciated much. also am i dreaming or is $ 1800a good number to be thinking on as far as the selling price?? thanks, john

One big drawback I see is that for as late as these were built, they don't have independent PTO. If like me, you don't need the PTO, it's not a big deal. Engine should be solid on most of these as it's basically a grown up C123 Super C/200/230 engine.
I have one with factory 3 point (most had Fast Hitch), an IH/ Wagner loader and a Charlynn PS. Wheel weights should be a definate plus with a loader... I just bought a pair off a B... have them cleaned up and painted, but not on yet. Also missing those side panels.

Is this a utility 240?

We grew up running one as a mower/rake tractor and we used it to pick up hay. The lack of a live PTO is an issue and very few have a remote hydraulic outlet. They are comparible to an 8N in terms of power but the fact most of them have power steering makes them much handier - especially with smaller/younger drivers.

Older utilities seem to have dropped some in price so $1500 to $2500 for a decent unit isn't out of line.

Since he called it an International and not Farmall I was assuming it's the utility. I have seen several including mine that have remote cylinder valves. They do not have a good draft control system with either 3 point or Fast Hitch, but it's probably better than nothing. There were 3 or 4 different systems it could have, or it could have just a drawbar.

I think I'd be pretty hard pressed to pay $1800 for one that rough looking. Also wonder about that plate bolted on the side???? Is it there to fix some problem or to beef it up to prevent a problem. If it were to run good and be okay mechanically would make a big difference, but it certainly hasn't had good care.
It has a Fast Hitch, not 3 point. I'd rather have that Super C, but wonder what that contraption is on the front.
