Super C Thermostat

I am restoring a 53 Super C for a friend and I need to replace the thermostat. The one I got from my local NAPA it was not even close to the old one that came out of the tractor. He says it shows it to be the correct Part number. He also says that there is some sort of adapter that I needed for it to work but he showed no part number for it. Does any of the experts here know what I need and were I can buy it. This is my first farmall to restore so i am learning as I go. Thanks for all the help

I have not gotten that far on my tractor yet.
The IH web site lists 2 thermostats for a super C.
361818R91 and 257440R91. I could not get either of those to cross to a good NAPA number on the NAPA web site.
Have you tried your local IH dealer?

The replacement thermostats do not look like the old originals. Now they are all flat. You will need to make a spacer to take up the slack between the thermostat and the groove, about 5/16 inch. I've used small exhaust pipe, cut one from a thick wall brass tube, I've even made one from PVC (seems to be holding up). Any thin walled pipe will work. Had to get the snap ring from the dealer.

Thanks for the help guys My local dealer says he can get every thing I need to put in the new type thermostat. I hope to have the tractor done in a couple of weeks. It"s been a lot of work but it"s also been a joy to see it come together after so many years of setting in a barn.
