Mower ---- Cub to A

Have a mower on my 1948 Cub. Would like to put it on the A (not super) to get a little more uph when in tough grasses. The A has no hydralics and not lift system. What would a fellow need to make the change over.

Cub mower will have opposite rotation than one for an A. It can be overcome, just keep it in mind.

I assume you are talking about a Woods belly rotary mower with three blades. To move to the A from the Cub, you will need a new v belt pulley for the A, a new mounting bracket and a new belt, plus a lever lift system. By the time you buy all that stuff, it's probably easier and cheaper to find a used belly mower that has all the stuff to fit the A. Also check the rotation. I'm not sure about the cub, but most of the A mowers are left hand and discharge to the left, which means the blades spindles rotate counter clockwise and the blade bolts are left hand threads. If your cub mower is right hand, you will have to deal with that as well.

Just park the tractors side by side and it will show you that a bunch of stuff needs to be changed bought or made cheaper to get a mower for the A as used ones do appear for sale .You didnt say what mower is on the C ub now. It doesent realy matter cause the mountings are a lot different. If its a Woods three blade dont worry about left hand throwor right hand just route the belt for correct rotation.

Yup. Everything's different from the Cub to the A. Nothing can be re-used without heavy modification.

I think you can still get all the parts at a Woods dealer, but I looked once and the parts are EX-PEN-SIVE.

The chances of you finding just the mounts without a mower deck attached are pretty slim, so just look for a complete setup like everyone's been advising.

In the meantime make sure your Cub and mower are set up right. It can make a night and day difference. Sharpen the blades. Make sure the mower pitches forward at least 1/2" from back to front, so you're only cutting the grass once.
