If I see another John Deere ad with the word, rare in it..

Come on Farmall guys we need to unite and create our own hype, just as the JD collectors have done. Next time you sell a Farmall H rear wheel weight set please remember to use verbage such as, "rare". And ask $1,000 for it.

I have a can of "rare" John Deere green paint on the shelf. I should put it on ebay with a starting price of $10,000.
Its true nothing is more over rated like a Deere.

have pity on me, i work at a john deere dealer where propaganda is everywhere. they really do brainwash people into believing that deere is the best, but i know better!

Of course anything John Deere is rare. They did not build anywhere close to as many tractors as IH did and never will. The millionth IH was a Farmall M and the 5 millionth was a 1066 in 1974
John Deere's millionth tractor was a 4010 and unless you count garden tractors which are not tractors at all but glorified lawn mowers, John Deere or nobody else will never produce 5 million tractors. So there you have the long and the short of why IH is King, Always has been always will be.

On this topic, the latest thing I've saw Friday at a tractor show in south central Indiana is that parts vendors at the flea market part of the show have now taken to putting Deere decals on items that I'm relatively sure that Deere never produced and calling them "rare" and asking big bucks for them. I saw a supposed John Deere wooden handled garden hoe and a garden rake--- they had JD decals on them. The hoe and the rake were of similar age and in good shape, but the guy was asking $150 of the pair, claiming that these were rare items. At another show last fall, I saw an old galvanized 2 gallon garden sprayer that had a Deere decal on it was being offered at $300 due to it's rarity. Maybe Deere did make this stuff, but the yellow and black decals didn't look nearly as old or worn as the items themselves.

Hi Nebraska Cowman, I am not a strong fan of one
over the other, you do need to remember that in
1984 IH was 440,000,000 negative net worth. So
w/o a bailout(buyout)they would not have been
King of anything. Don't want to make anyone angry
but that is just the facts. Chuck

Deere did make garden tools in the 70's. They made snowmobiles, ATV's bikes, the list goes on and on. Hitachi cordless drills saws, etc have all been re-branded with Deere in the last couple years. Check the price at a Deere dealer for a cordless drill then goe to Lowes and find the same drill with a Hitachi decal and you will be shocked. Heck, that goof ball company has 'made' bottled water and sold it! Take a trip to the JD Commons and see how much crap they sell. I mean crap too. If you can put a Deere decal on it and charge 75% more for an item they will do it.
Because it has a leaping deer it is 30% more in cost of parts. My IH dealer has just as much of a selection of old IH parts as a Deere dealer would have. If you whine about the cost of an IH bearing or spring...go to the Deere dealer. They will make you feel better.
Rare or not the Deere's to me are just a high priced novelty.

(quoted from post at 13:00:21 05/02/10) I think its a what ever you want call.Like rolex or time-x,they both do the same job.
I bet Timex’s production numbers are way higher than Rolex too, does that make Timex better or higher quality or more sought after than Rolex, I think not.
I guess you could use the same analogy with a fine Italian sports car or fine luxury car compared to a Chevy Caviler or Honda Accord, I bet there are way more Cavaliers and Accords on the road doin the same job.

I have friends who have red tractors and they are still my friends even if they can’t afford a good tractor.

John Deere guys.....Harley guys......Caterpillar truck engine guys....all hit over the head with the same club.

I am glad you old guys like your red tractors, Heck I couldn't have afforded my new truck with out them IH torques, 706's and 560 to work on.

I think John Deere made well over 3 million 2-cylinder tractors. 250,000 model Bs alone. I'm sure Deere has surpassed the 5 million mark long before IH 1066 rolled across the finish line.

Doesn"t matter who the company is! If they sell crap with similar service, they will not be in business for long. Color will not matter.

All this talk about red and green. I have a Farmall 140 that I'm setting up to cultivate. Needed a lot of work but it was not the tractors fault. The people that had it abused it.

I also have a New Holland TN 60A Tractor that I use to pull a JD 455 Hydropush manure spreader and a JD 335 round baler. My son has a JD 4020 tractor that he likes but is only 5 years old and it smokes a little already.

Just going on performance my TN 60A is one tough well made tractor and the JD baler runs flawlessly

My father-in-law always said anything is good as long as it works right.

On the down side I have a dutz Farr tedder that I think is a poorly made piece of junk.

Hey Im green all the way,I just didnt want to upset anyone. its America and all have there own rights to drive and own what they want.

Actually I believe Deere did not pass the five million mark with their farm tractors till early this century, it was 2004 or 2005 I believe. Not trying to start a fight at all, just one of the things we talked about at tech school.

Hey, since the companies are all merged now, we can count all the Cases, Fords, and New Holland tractors in with the IHs. Whatever that total number is, Deere can't touch it :)

From the sounds of it you are not all that familiar with Italian sports cars, unless you really do think think your Deeres are built with "passion" instead of engineering. They do make very passionate fireballs when the explode though! :p

Just a little ribbing back...

I admit, I don’t got a clue about Italian sports cars or Rolex's, if you gave me one I’d sell it as fast as possible and buy a truck or some more JD’s.
And I had much rather have a machine built by quality engineering than one built with “passion”.

I had avoided this post until this a.m. Since Monday of last week I have been looking for a hood for my JD STX38 rider mower - don"t ask - called the JD dealer; I think I was sitting down, $255 w/o take. Someone want a "rare" used lawnmower hood? And...I"m guessing that stick is called a stupid stick.
