If it's not one thing it's another

Hey guys (and gals). I've owned this H for about three years now and slowly but surely been fixing it up with as time would allow. I've referred to this site's archives for help numerous times and thanks to all who post on here and share their knowledge. When I purchased this tractor someone had attempted to restore it but then got in over their head or lost interest and threw it back together, rather poorly, and sold it in the auction I purchased it at. To date I have gone through the charging system, rebuilt the generator, new wiring, new voltage regulator, rebuilt the starter, new battery cables, rebuilt the carb, cleaned the gas tank out and sealed it, replaced the gauges, and put in a new thermostat. Mostly minor stuff but at least I could jump on it and ride around until the day after I took this pic. I pressure washed it and cleaned it all up before this pic was taken. The next day I went into the shop and had a massive puddle under it. Pressure washer had damaged the gasket between trans. housing and axle housing. Looks like my next project has been planned out for me, and it is not all bad because I did have to replace the axle seal on the same side anyway. Oh well. I guess it's all part of the fun of tractors, eh??

That will be a good H keep at it. It is possible to replace that gasket (with a single cut in it) see the archives. Jim

This is the same tractor with the unusual attachment shown below. I can't remember what it does.. Could you refresh my memory?

Jason, Just did my M axles. Drain rear end gear oil. I blocked rearend and put jack under frame rail do one side at a time do not want to tip it much..You will need to get the gaskets and seals. Pull out you PTO and shaft. Than you can losen the bull gear bolts I back my out and put them back about 3 treads. Take the axle bolts out. You should be able to pull axle out about an 1" to 1 1/4" enough room to clean all and get new gasket on with cut vertical at top. I buttered both sides with RTV. Bolt it all back up clean off RTV that sqeezed out. Do other side let it set 1 day before puting gear oil back.
It is a job but it can be done. Oldiron29

Well, i"ve not done a scientific test on it yet, but I believe it to be a road gear by an unknown manufacturer. It istill shrouded in mystery!!

Hi Jason,

Crawl under there with a big wrench and tighten those housings up.

They tend to work loose over the years and it takes one heck of a big gap to leak 80w-90.

At least, it's worth a shot.
