Help on pulley size.

Wanting to make up brackets to run a eaton PS pump from the main fan belt on a C264 engine like IH used on some W400 tractors. Run into a problem looking on line for a pulley. Instead of listing the V size of the pulleys in inches (how wide the V is) I find them listed by belt number size. My question is does anyone know what the number size is for the V on a M type fan belt. Thanks

D, I have that PS setup on my SMD, i dont know the belt number off hand but the numbers are clear and its a green stripe belt. Ill look on Friday and get back to you.

There are an awful lot belt types and specs nowadays. I have 16 v-belts on my F-400 and had to do some research last summer. A Grainger catalog can be helpful. I use a TB Wood's catalog.

Anyway, to answer your question, the fan belt on a 400 is closely related to a "C" section industrial belt and is interchangeable. I believe that automotive belts use a slightly different V angle than the standard industrial "A", "B", "C" and "D" belts

C = 7/8"
CX = 7/8" cogged
5L = 21/32 and might work
8V = 1". Probably won't work. V angle is steep. Some mfgs call it "Ultra V".

Some belts are labeled FHP which stands for "Fractional Horsepower" You don't want those.

In addition to the above, there are metric belts.

I have a question. I am familiar with the IH provided PS belt driven pump used on tractors with no Hydra-Touch. I have seen it in parts books. How did IH handle the fan shroud? I am assuming they added a pulley in front of the fanbelt crankshaft pulley. This will cause clearance problems with the shroud where the belt runs. Or did they run one 7/8" fan belt around the crankshaft, fan, and PS pump?

Wardner a new belt is close to 27/32 wide on the OD and 9/32 to 9/16 wide on the ID. Thought a # 5 size pulley was close but not sure if right. Plan to use the same belt that runs the fan, only longer to drive the pulley. Have mocked up mounting the pump, but final bracket sizes depends on pulley sizes available. Want things more compact than mounting a bracket on governor housing and won't need the fan spacers or extra crankshaft pulley. Also shouldn't need to cut fan shrould. Didn't want to mount high and run from generator belt also.
Used to be a industrial supply 18 miles from me that stocked all sizes of pulleys and belts. Could walk in and describe what I wanted and they would say lets go look, you could actually see and hold the part before purchase. Those days are gone. Thanks

Thanks Andrew the width and V size is what I'm trying to match. Depending on pulley size and mounting the length may be different than what you have. If there's anything to identify the pulley make on the pump, that would be great.
