The sn tag was removed from my SM years ago.Casting codes reveal its a 53.is there aNY way to find a sn.Is there any way to determine if its a'Louisville' or a 'farmallworks'I've only owned it since 82,probably doesnt matter, just curios.

The engine serial number is usually relatively close, unless something happened to the block that required it to be replaced.

If the engine is original it may be possible to narrow it down to the month built. Also since they didn't make SM at Louisville the whole 1953 year. If the engine serial # happens to be later than used in Louisville tractors you can figure it was made at Farmall. IH skiped a bunch of C264 engine numbers in the middle part of 53, so the engine # may be no where near the tractor #. If a Louisville tractor it wouldn't be anyway.
If its a stage 2 SM its common to find clutch housings on Louisville ones that have the holes on left of housing behind the starter with no threads tapped. Common to be tapped on farmall ones. Found that is not the case 100% of the time though. If you post the engine serial # I may be able to tell what area the tractor serial # was. No promises.

That engine was used in august of 53, July was the last month Louisville SM were built. 99% percent sure the tractor was built at farmall. probably had a serial # between 45000 and 46000.
