What is involved in changing a single 1000 pto unit to dual shaft 540/1000 unit on a 1466 IH, I know i need to drain the hydraulic oil, the pto going in will be a rebuilt unit

Years ago we pulled our 1000 and put in a dual 540/1000. Trying to remember....I think it was as easy as draining the oil, removing the old PTO pack, installing the new and refilling with oil.

Now...removal and installation is a bit tricky as you have to be careful with the oil pickup tubes and such. Of course, use new gaskets too.

I have to rebuild the clutch pack on my 14. Got the parts just haven"t had the time. Guess all my "fun" from years ago when I swapped these out will come back soon enough.

Run the front wheels down in a ditch and you do not even have to drain the oil. It also makes it easier to install since gravity will help you move it forward in the rear frame. Be sure to reset the pressure after you get the dual speed installed.

Just don't run any high torque jobs on the 540. There is a reason they went to 1000 RPM shaft on the higher HP tractors.

Thanks for all the info. guys, 1 question to Owen or anybody who knows the answer, what do you mean and how do you reset the pressure
