460 diesel won't start

I got my Dad's 460 diesel and trying to get it running. Put in new fuel, cleaned the bowel, new fuel filters, new glow plugs, checked the fuel flow all the way to the fuel pump. I unbolted one of the fuel lines from the pump that goes to the cylinder and no fuel there, just damp. Fuel shup off seems to be moving fine. Still won't start! Any suggestions on what to do next would be appreciated! The tractor has set for quite a few years, don't know how long maybe 5 to 10 years.

is the fuel system bleed properly? make sure bleeders are at top of canisters so all air comes out. fuel shut off is in forward position for running.have seen trying to start with fuel lever in stop position. was there fuel in tank while sitting those years? have seen them sit with no fuel and injection pump rusted up inside.crack lines at injectors and give it a pull to spin it over faster.

The tank had fuel in it and I added more and the line was bled properly all the way to the pump. I'll check the position of the shut off at the pump but believe it's right as the knob on the dash moves and works the same as my 560. I tried losening one of the injector lines at the engine and the line started to twist when I turned the nut, so left it alone as I didn't want to twist the line.

Crack your lines at the injectors and crank to see if fuel comes to there it may take a while. If it doesn"t come to there and you have free fuel to the pump the problem is the pump. It may not be bad if it has set several years it may be gummed up.

if you loosen return line at pump you should have fuel running out. loosen only the lines you can then with out twisting them. let us know how you make out.

I'll have to wait until tomorrow night to try loosening some of the fuel lines. Tonight's my wedding aniversary so can't play with tractors tonight. I presurized the fuel tank last night with some compressed air while cranking the engine. Got a drop of fuel out of one of the lines to one of the injectors was all. How can I clean the pump if it's pluged up? Also wonder about the starter, with two new 6 volt batteries it seems to turn the engine over sort of slowly.

as i said, i would give it a pull with another tractor. maybe dump some diesel conditioner in the tank. if it is gummed up badly the pump will need to go to a diesel injection shop.

place 2 12V batteries in parallel... Gives you more cranking capacity...

If you want to spin it fast (you take your starters life in your own hands here)... hook em in series to give you 24V...

I had to pull my 560 when I first got it running and the pump would then ppump enough for it to run but after I shut it off then it wouldnt start. Pull it and it would run again. I took the pump to the diesel shop and now it starts good. Those tractors are all slow cranking it would be nice if there was a way to make them crank faster I think they would start a lot better if they did. Good luck. Mic
