F 12 shift pattern

Can anyone tell me what the shift pattern is for a Farmall f-12. Even reverse would help alot. thanks.

The one that makes the tractor go backwards is reverse. :)

For the remaining three, the gear that makes the tractor go fastest is 3rd, and the one that makes it go slowest is 1st. Process of elimination means the remaining gear must be 2nd.

Yeah, it's a little bit of a smarta$$ reply, but not really when you think about it:

1. It serves no purpose to know which gear position is which gear if the tractor is not running.
2. You can find out which is which easily enough by carefully driving the tractor, if it is running.
 
Shouldn't it be cast in somewhere near the transmission? Perhaps removing dirt/grime will reveal the shift pattern. I think my W30 has it in the casting.
 
The 12 series tractors differed from all other IH tractors (after the introduction of the 15-30 in 1921)in that the shafts on the gear-box are arranged across the tractor rather than along the tractor. The gear layout is provided by a decal usually attached to the rear of the fuel tank and not by a cast in pattern on the gear-box.

Neutral, in up and down in the centre.
Reverse, down and the the left,
First, down and to the right
Second, up and to the left
Third, up and to the right.
 
Well put, I missed the mis-located first gear in the post below.

I've seen guys think their transmission is locked up because the shift pattern is the lazy H and they can't get the shifter to where they think neutral is located.
 
Because of the lazy H shift pattern, the original poster may have been trying to figure out where what is so they can pull the tractor to try to start it, and if you don't understand the shift pattern that can be a challenge. BTDT won't forget for a few more years.
