IH 1066 and Disk Chisel Questions...

Thinking we"re burning too much time and fuel having to bushhog or disk over stalk ground before chiseling it in the fall... Pull an 11 shank 3 pt. chisel with 1066 now, It pulls it deep but wouldn"t want to add another shank to it! Question is, could the "66 handle a 9 shank disk chisel? It is my assumption that the disk blades would chop the stalks enough to prevent them from gathering around the shanks. I wouldn"t think the blades would pull any harder than a couple more shanks since the blades are straight and not angled. Any ideas?

I pull a 9 shank with 280 hp and MFWD at 8.5 mph. Use to have a 1466 with 180hp and it wouldnt hardly do it at more than 4 mph. It all depends on what brand, how wide are the shanks, what type of soil, how deep you are plowing and how level your land is. Certain older models dont like narrow row corn that is high yielding, You will just have to try it to find out

I would think you would be fine. I am sure those 9 disc blades would require much less hp than the 2 shanks you are loosing.

My uncle had a 1066 with TA. He pulled a 5 bottom Melroe plow and took the TA out. The 1066 is only at best 118hp. Consider making another trip up the field with what you got instead of risking the drivetrain.
