IHC UTILITY TRACTOR

A friend of mine has a 300 utility tractor. it has a front mounted hyd. pump that is plumbed into the tractor under the seat. No external hyd. tank. There is only one lever that controls the rear 2 pt. hitch.
The QUESTION--He just bought a front loader for the tractor with a hyd. 2 way cylinder on the bucket and 2 one way cylinders on the lift arms.

How can this be plumbed up so he can work everything. Rear 2pt. and front loader.
He only has one lever on the tractor at the present time.

thanks

There are two ways to go. He can use additional valves on the right front of seat to ad more controls. 2way or one way operation are possible with IH valves by using a control switch on the valve. two valves can be stacked together on the front right. (should be a plate there to be reused on the outside of the final valve.
Or
He can put a separate pump running from the crank shaft out the front casting where the crank hole is located. This allows a higher capacity pump, and quicker loader operation. It will then need a reservoir and valves to attach to the loader. Recommended! Jim

Thanks Jim He already has the front mounted pump. The hoses from the front mounted pump run back to the reservior under the seat. Why would that be????
thanks

what jim is talking about is another pump in addition to the existing pump. the easiest way to do this would be is to stack a second set of controls/valves on your existing control valve or there is another spot right in front of the valve for the fast hitch where you can mount one. they can be bolted to each other(stacked). after adding your second set of controls just run the hoses up front to the loader..you got the pump and you got the resivior as part of the tractor already..

I assumed the front pump he had was the stock live pump. That being not so, the front pump is probably supplying the original hydraulic system (under the seat where it is normally found) this makes sense if the original failed (as pointed out) or was removed and replaced with a drive housing from a 52 or 53 H or SH. Jim

That is the IH version of the higher output pump.
It was an option. Look in your IH manual in the rear and you will see it.
You can put on the extra valves if you can find them and the plumbing to go with them...or you can get an after market loader set up and plumb it in with an extra set of valves.
I have both...and I like the controls on the AUX system up near the steering wheel. You get tired of fumbling around with the valves by the seat.

I am not familiar with the Utilities but I believe there is only room for two IH valves on the right side of the underseat reservoir. It appears that you need three valves or an aftermarket double selector valve that will shift hydraulic power to another valve or valves. They are kinda expensive and require six hoses for the six ports. Plus they require you to operate the selector before operating the other circuits.

The picture below will do the same job and be much cleaner. It is an IH part for adding additional aftermarket valves wherever you want. Two hoses will supply a double spool remote valve for the loader. It replaces the end cap on the IH valve you already have.

Part # is 365912 R1. I think they are rare as I have never seen another. The two big ports are 1/2" NPT. I believe the small port is a pressure test port but I may be mistaken. It is 1/4" NPT. Google that part number and see what happens.

BTW, you could make this plate if you have a milling machine, 1/2" drill, and a proper counter bore for the O-rings. You could use new plate or possibly modify the IH cast iron plate you already have.

First question... does your friend already have a loader? Next, if he does, does it already have valves and a reservoir built in? If he doesn't already have one, I would recommend finding one that does and add a gear pump to the front off the crankshaft. Trying to use the existing system and adding components to it can be a real headache.

added: I went back and read your post that he already has a loader, so does it have the valves and built-in reservoir?

I gotta ask: What do you mean by "front mounted pump???"

Is it literally sticking out the FRONT-FRONT of the tractor, out ahead of the grill? This is an aftermarket pump.

Is it UP-FRONT on the side of the engine, right in front of the distributor? This is the factory pump.

Not that it really makes a whole hoot of a difference. The solution is the same, but it would make people feel more comfortable if they knew exactly what you had.
