Help! I have a TD6 IH. I am trying to find the specs and age on the motor. The crawler serial is: TDBK10770T7CM, The engine number is: TDBKM7280. Some of the valves are stuck due to sitting, before I attempt starting the unit up, I want to pull the head, but I want to locate a head gasket first.

Thanks!

Hello, It is a gas over and the parts for them are a pain to find now. A case Dealer will have the Head Gasket set it about $190 as I just bought one for my MD. Cool tractors and a bunch of fun to run. As for a stuck valve they can be loosened sometimes without pulling head. These heads are heavy on these tractors. If it hase been sitting awhile you should probually clean carb and make sure the rack is lose in the primary pump and be sure that the lift pump is not froze up for some dumb reason or you will snap the shaft between the 2. They are fun and you will enjoy it. I have a couple MDs and a WD6 and a John Deere MC crawler I love to run all of them but something about gas overs that just make them fun.

Sprockets grousers and idlers look very good (from pics) nice dozer. Put auto trans fluid into the spark plug holes (with it in the gasoline start position) (about 10 squirts from a pump oil can) and let that part sit.
Remove the valve cover, spray penetrant on each stem/spring (including the starting valves) and use a smaller old fashon monkey wrench or other tool to depress each valve. If any are stuck, tap on them as you push. if they begin to move, use good sense, and pull them back to avoid driving them in too far. When they return on thrir own, you can be confident in turning the engine. (check the fuel injection pump as indicated in the other post). After turning, again check the valves for stuck (full cam lift can cause them to stick, and lifters can also stick. Nice unit. Jim

Thanks everyone for all the pointers. I got all the intake and exhaust valves to free up without sticking, but now I noticed the start/compression release valves are stuck, and these are buried. I used my drill to free up the main valves, but now I may have to pull the head for the others. Fyi, I am able to turn the motor by hand via the fan blade, of course without the plugs in. other than possibly having to spend $200 on head gasket, my other concern is the injector pump, ouch if thats no good. Keep in mind I'm trying to see if this unit is worthy, before going to town. Thanks again, got about three days of work in it already, and surely many more to come.

They are buried, but I think they may be reached via the spark plug hole. I can't remember right now about the 6. I know they can on the bigger engines. That plug hole is large (18mm) and some skinny needle nose pliers can get a hold on the stem and work it, possible enough to loosen it. The spring is only rated for 25 pounds new, so they can stick easy. Usually it takes a little up action, and then a tap down from above, repeat as needed. Don't grab up high on the stem of course, and starting with a tap down motion first helps to break it free in the first place.
