h stearing gears

I'm fixing the stering on my h. adding a schwartz wide front. but I found that there is slop in the stearing gears. to get this out is it better to change both the gear and worm gear? or does one wear more than thother?

You probably need to change both. Changing the worm on the shaft would help the most.

You should be able to pull the gear off, rotate it 180 degrees and put it back on. It is possible though that this has already been done, and then you need to replace that gear. You also want to inspect the condition of the bearing on the worm gear shaft, and also make sure that big pipe plug that holds the worm shaft in is snugged up good.
