Belt Pully Question

Have an oil leak where the belt pully connects to the housing of the 39 M. Want to pull it out to replace the gasket. Is there any tricks of the trade I need to be aware of. Thought I would replace bearings if needed while in the process.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Comes right off. There is just a gear meshing with a trans gear. No linkages. It is pretty heavy. The bearings will need to be pressed off. No real issues involved. caseih.com search for parts will detail the parts exploded drawing. JimN

If you are talking about where the belt pulley housing mounts to the transmission, there is a gasket there. If you are talking about the round flange that has the shaft seal and mounts to the belt pulley housing with three bolts, there is not a gasket there, only shims to adjust the gear lash. It's not a big deal to replace any of this, but you do need a bearing separator and a press to get the gear and bearings off the shaft so you can replace the seal. There is a shaft seal and a felt washer. I did this recently and got the parts from external_link. The seal package included a wear sleeve for the shaft. Since there is not a gasket to seal the pulley flange, you must have everything very clean when you reassemble to avoid leaks at the shims. Be sure to put the shims back like they were. I used a very light coating of spray on gasket sealer on the shims. No leaks so far.

Just make sure you have everything out of the way when you do it. IH still has the gaskets and thickness does matter as the gear mesh will be off if you don't have the right stuff. The IH gasket has metal inside and is reuseable. Look for cracks on the top cover where it drops down to the belt pulley. Seen a few that had small cracks there that leaked oil. If the crack isn't bad, then spray it out with brake clene and smear a little RTV in the crack and wipe off excess.
