timing a 504 farmall

Hi could anyone tell me the running timing on a 504 farmall with a c 153 gas engine and while checking what rpm do you run the tractor at full throttle I believe

You usually check timing with the engine at an idle. My manual doesn't cover that engine, but the C152 timing is 9.5 degrees at 400rpm's. Check your manual. Hal

Set timing at full throttle, I don't have specs on that engine right here. A proper working ignition system will have a nice smooth advance from low idle to high idle, normally low idle is right at about tdc and just a guess would be about 22 degrees btdc at full throttle. The important reading is the one at full throttle for full power and engine life. A lot of advance mechanisms get worn and will advance way to early and cause a rough running engine at any speed under full throttle and if you set the timing where it belongs at low idle it will be way short on the high end.

My manual says 22 degrees for engine numbers prior to 4484, 20 degrees for engines numbered 4484 and up. 25 degrees for C153 LP gas engines.

Also heads up incase you didn't know...if you happen to have low oil pressure the C153's oil pump's bottom plate is prone to warping, leaking, and loss of pressure. It's a pretty easy fix and discussed in these archives.
Good luck
