Farmall C clutch adjustment

I had a 1949 Farmall C follow me home last week and the clutch is out to it's furthest adjustment. You have to push the clutch about a foot to release it. There is no adjustment in the rod from the clutch to the shaft that runs thru the belly of the tractor. I don't really want to split the tractor to install a clutch. Can I just bend that rod in a slight U shape to take up the slack or is there a better method. I have seen these rods with a clevis for adjustment but no clevis on this one. Any ideas? Dan

Jim, The adustment inside the bell housing is on it's last thead. Clutch is still holding well but the Pedal needs to be pushed 10" or more to disengage. I need to adjust the clutch pedal up so it has an inch or so freeplay instead of 10". Hope this explains my problem better. Dan

There were two types of throwout bearing for that tractor, one ball bearing, one graphite. They had different carriers for the different bearings. I wonder if you ended up with a "mix and match" of parts that don't belong together.

i agree with a mix match of parts. clutch wear alone should not require or account for that much pedal movement. good luck, d.coleman

could the through out bearing yoke be installed backwards? not familure with "C" just a thought. does the C have a inspection cover on clutch bellhouseing? look in and see if yoke can be turned 180 degrees to put the T/O breaning closer to fingers on pressure plate. are the fingers on pressure plate properly adjusted? good luck. d.coleman
