Farmall M won't fire (carb?) help please

I have never had a problem getting my M started(other than winter). I was using it a couple of times last week. I noticed a spit and sputter every so often so I decided to remove the bowl and clean it out. I always find debris in there. Anyway, I mistakenly removed the front set screw off the carb. I got the tractor going again and dialed the screw back in until the tractor ran good again. Then I parked it.
Now I go to start it and it won't pop off. I pulled the plugs and they were a little black maybe form having the screw set a little too rich. Any way, I don't know what to try as far as if something in the carb is wrong or who knows what.
I am getting new plugs and a carb kit but none of the jets in the carb were plugged from what I could see( i am an amateur).

Does anybody have suggestions? I really don't want to burn up my starter trying to crank this thing over and over. Prior to this problem I could even hand crank this about 3 times and get it started. Very frustrating and confusing. THanks to anyone who is kind enough to offer suggestions.

the main load jet is the one on the bottom of the bowl, there is an idle mix and idle speed set up on the top. set the idle mix about 1 and 1/2 turns out. set the main load jet 3 and 1/2 turns out. that should get you in the ball park. start the tractor and let it get goood and warm. then set the idle mix till the tractor runs smooth at idle and adjust the speed screw till you are happy. then i run the tractor at wide open throttle and turn the main load jet in till the motor just starts to change sound, then out 1/2 turns. if you are gonna work her hard, open it another half turn out.

The only screw I touched was the one that points toward the front of the tractor. And from what you said that should be 1 1/2 turns out, right? Manual says this is main adjustment screw.
What I am saying though is that the carb is pretty close to where it was when the tractor was running. Why won't it start now is my question. It just doesn't seem like it's getting gas.
Glennster, the other two screws I didn't move.

could be starving for fuel. you have been getting debris in the bowl, disconnect the fuel line where it goes in the carb, and take the second fitting out. there is a screen in there and it could be all plugged up. if that checks out, hook it all back up, then on the lower part of the carb bowl is a small pipe plug. (if its a distillate carb, it will have a petcock) get a can and remove the plug and let the gas run out for a minute or so, you should have a steady strem. if not you have a blockage, look to the sediment bowl, lot of times rust flages will plug the intake on the sediment bowl.

I'll try that second fitting on the carb where the fuel line connects. I tried getting that fitting off earlier tonight when I had the whole carb apart but gave up because it wouldn't budge.
I'm interested to see that screen, though. I know that gas is getting thru though because it drips out the bottom of the carb when I choke it.
More to follow when I try this tomorrow. Thanks for the help so far

I now realize I have no spark. I'm stopping at International tom. to get carb kit and points. I have never dealt with a set of points on anything my whole life. Hopefully I can mount the new set, gap 'em and hope the tractor starts.
Any words of wisdom regarding points that might be useful? If this doesn't work i'll probably have to hire someone.

thanks

Mike
