When did they start making cubs in yellow and labeling them International? What is the difference between the early and late cubs?
I am still learning as I shop for a cub. Thanks for any info.

They must have changed colour in the early 60s .Then in the late 70s they painted the last ones red agian. Those are hard to come by. As far as the diference between the early models and the late models the late ones are 12 volt and a little more hp and less wear and tear i would think. I have a yellow and white cub its a 1975 model. Erik.

Where are you located? I came across a yellow one (with a belly mower) and a 49-ish red one here in Canada.

The main difference between early and late Cubs is age. A 1979 Cub is 32 years newer than a 1947 Cub.

Functionally, they are identical. All the implements from the early ones fit the later ones, and vice versa.

There were minor improvements to some internal parts over the years, but the newer parts fit the older tractors just fine if you need to make repairs.

Putting aside the math lesson which you probably already knew, the Cub had a few style changes over the years as follows (I may be off slightly on years). The original Cub design was changed 'round about 1955. The most significant from a cosmetic standpoint would be the change from a mesh-like grill to an attractive 9 bar grill and the adding of the LoBoy as an alternative to the regular Cub. The tractor stayed red for I believe two years and then the grill was changed to white. I'm thinking it was 1959 when they changed the grill to a 5 bar design. Once you get into the 1960's I no longer can tell you but it was right in there or a little later they started with the new colors. All this from memory...it has been most of a year since I was Cub shopping. The tip below about the Cub website is a good one. The people there are nice folks and the resources available could be a model for any forum/website.
