Farmall H carb rebuild

I'm planning to rebuild the carb on an H I bought a while back and I'm thinking about where I should buy the kit. I've always used the complete kit through CaseIH in the past and I've had very good luck with it. The thing is the price of that kit has gone crazy..$100-$120.

Does anyone have a good suggestion as to where to order one from? I've looked here on YT and maybe I was looking at the ads wrong, but it seemed a little confusing to me as to which kit to buy. I know the throttle shaft in the CaseIH kit has the brass piece on the end where the governor linkage connects to as compared to most kits I see have a plastic piece. I'd much rather get one that has it in brass.

You can get them cheaper, I would stay with CaseIH. I just don't trust the aftermarket ones. No problems with the ones from CaseIH. Yes, they are overpriced. But, you don't have to do carb overhauls very often.

The IH kits have indeed gone through the roof on price. But if your carb is bad enough to need many parts replaced, then you may be better off with the pricey IH version as it will have everything you need. If, however, you need to replace just the basic parts - needle valve and seat, throttle shaft packing and adjustment screws, then an after market kit should be OK. I"ve used the parts offered on this site with good results on several of my tractors.

As to the brass vs. plastic issue, I"m on the other side of the fence - I like the plastic end(actually it looks more like teflon to me but I can"t say for sure). I"ve rebuilt four carb linkages for H"s and M"s and in three cases, the key on the linkage rod from the governor that fits into the plastic or brass end of the carb throttle shaft was badly worn. If the two parts do not fit tightly, the governor pick-up response is slow (you may even think you have a governor problem). Replacement linkage rods are available but cost $75. I know that brass should give it up before the steel linkage rod, but I can"t help but believe that the softer material may be better on the more expensive linkage in the long haul.
