In a recent post, someone referenced a Hugh McKay designed 3-point hitch for offests.

Anyone have a copy of these plans, or are they posted anywhere ?

Tried a basic search, Mckay hitch, and a thousand posts came up, anything he ever read or commented on.

couv; last week I was doing an search of posts by "author" Hugh MacKay. Another reason why spelling helps as you need the "a" in M"a"cKay. With 2,234 posts I had gone through 12 of 90 pages. Did the same and page 13 yielded this posting. Hugh"s son Sandy had posted early in January of this year and he has the plans but no email. I suggest posting for S. or Sandy MacKay and also include in the "subject" line you are seeking Hugh"s off-set three-point conversion plans. Maybe Sandy or someone with the plans will chime in. I know some folks did receive his plans. Good luck w/your project and post back w/your results.

Hugh never did much with pictures but he did know how to post them. In the ten years he was here, I don't think he published more than five. But one of those pictures was a drawing of the hitch. It might be in the picture archives under Implement Photos or Tractor Photos.

One of my concerns was the attaching point for the top link. I've seen some official 3-point kits, and they use a section of "C" channel over the rockshaft, it u-bolts to the rockshaft, and the top link ears are welded to the channel iron.

I always assumed this meant the rockshaft was too weak in the center to take the pounding from the 3rd link.

Hugh's design doesn't use the reinforcement to the rockshaft. So it must be OK to attach like he did, u-bolt "ears" to the center of the rockshaft ???

I took a set of points, and welded TISCO Cat I eyeballs to them, got a short 3rd link, or use a chain when possible.

What does my YT family think ?

The Hugh MacKay hitch is much stronger than the one I grew up with back in the 50's and 60's. It was Cat 1 and simply bolted up on the final drive hitch points for the rear gangs and the draw bar. It did not have the reinforcing bar included with the MacKay package. It used the same U Bolt attachment on the rock shaft for the top link. We used it to mount a sub-soiler to break up the center of Tobacco rows prior to bedding. It never gave any trouble, but should the sub-soiler hit a stump it would put the driver through the steering wheel (our farm was new ground cleared in 1949)! I hated that particular job. We never broke anything on the tractor, but I got awful bruised up.
