Don't know for sure on the 424. You'll have to look but there should be a u-shaped pipe bolted to the exhaust manifold. If so then a upright pipe can be made to work if you can't find the right part. But, you have to cut a hole in the hood. The only time I don't like an underneath exhaust is when I'm adjusting something behind the tractor that takes more than a couple of minutes -- exhaust smoke. You might look at the parts search on www.caseih.com, provided they include the 424/444.
 
Diesel? If so, I think the answer is YES, after looking in my parts book..

The 424 I used to have had a vertical exhaust. Someone changed it over before I got it. It had a jury rigged flange that did not work very well and came loose. I found that the manifold was threaded just like many of the other Farmalls. I just borrowed a pipe tap (1 1/2 NPS I think) and chased the threads and screwed in a short length of pipe.

If diesel with the BD-154, yes. Some 3414s and B-414s use the same engine with the vertical exhaust option. B-275 with the BD-144 may also fit.

I'm assuming you mean the exhaust and not the intake? The gas engines with downdraft in IHs mostly on the BC-144 engines with British-Zenith carbs. Not used on 424s as I recall. Just B-275s, B-414s. 3414s, maybe the 434, 354, 3444, etc.
