Super C Throwout Bearing

I just replaced the throwout bearing in a 1953 super c and now the clutch will not release unless the the clutch rod is adjusted to its longest point and the clutch peddle is pushed all the way down. The clutch and pressure plate were not replaced and were never removed from the flywheel. The bearing that I put in the tractor was not an exact match to the one that I removed but was told that it was the updated version. Also the old bearing had to be greased and the new bearing was a sealed type. Has anyone had any experience with this problem? Thanks for any help

I had this same exact same problem on my super c and pulled my hair out.I purchased a whole new clutch kit and replaced everything correctly and couldt get the clutch to disengage at all. I took it a part twice and came to conclusion that the new throw out bearning had a litte lip on the out edge that was getting caught up on the fingers of pressure plate. I just end up putting the old throw bearning back in and everything was fine Good Luck Jim

CNKS may be onto something from one of two different directions.

There were two kinds of throwout bearings for your tractor. One was a solid bearing -- it didn't turn. It was sold as a single piece, consisting of the carrier, the metal piece that rides in the fork. Molded or pressed into it was a block of a graphite compund, the face of which served as the bearing surface that pressed on the clutch fingers. The other was of a more familiar design, a rough cast but machined carrier into which fit a roller type bearing, one side of which pressed agains the clutch fingers. It's been a while since I replaced one, but I seem to recall that the fit is such that the bearing needs to be driven or pressed into the carrier for thins to line up right. That may be part of your problem.

Was your old bearing of the roller type? If not, the one thing that won't work is to try and fit a new-style roller bearing onto/into the carrier of the older graphite style bearing. It mounts into the fork the same, but is a whole different animal.

Thanks for all the help Guys. The old bearing was the roller type. After doing some investigating I have found other issues. The bushings that are on the clutch shaft mounted on the torque tube are completely gone and it takes about half the peddle travel to take up the free play before the the bearing even starts to engage the clutch. I think this will solve most of my problem, at least it a good place to start. Again thanks for all the help. By the way does anyone know if you can still get these bushings from a International dealer?

The part # for that bushing is 355805R1. Give a dealer a call and see if it's available. If not a shop could make you one w/ inside (shaft dia) outside (hole dia) and length dimensions.
