656D 3 point

Have a problem, was plowing along this morning and all of a sudden with no noises or warning the 3 point raised to it's fullest position and will not go back down. Tried everything with the draft lever and the position lever and all though it drops about an inch will not go down. Any ideas of what to look for or where to start?

Pull the center link bracket and see what the heck is going on with that spring-loaded linkage.

I agree, something broke, or came out of place on the draft sensing linkage, not common on that model but it is on the larger tractors.

It was full of air this past winter when I took the picture. That's why I had the cover off; trying to find the air source.

On Allan's picture there is a spring pulling on a flat bar against a aaaaaaaarod ended curved link. This is the Draft Control linkage. It is correct in his photo, and needs to be just like that. If it is broken, it needs to be repaired to exacting size. If it is out of place, the wear that allowed it to get out of place needs to be addressed. Jim

No,

When full, the level is right at the lower edge of the cover opening.

Grab that linkage and see if it is "loose" or broken. Especially, the one coming up from the bottom. Look to see that the two are in proper relation to one another as in my picture.

Ya might have to get yer fingers wet with oil. :>)

Allan, your tractor is a Hydro. With a gear drive the oil level is about where it is in your picture. That is why you need to have a hydro running to check the oil level.

I had that problem bck in 1977 on a brand new 686 .If its the same problem as i had it will be good to go in the morning. But it will happen agian. I had to take it in to the shop at least 4 times before some one figured it out. I cant remember what they did but i think you have to remove the seat and its under that plate below the seat. Some kind of adjustment i think. Good luck Erik..
