Thanks for your help on my steering sector gear.We had the machine shop take off .050 off the bottom of the gear. After paying the bill I was sure hoping that was enough. They charged me $80.25.After grinding feed I came home and put it in.It fit fine.Dad came in to take it home today to finish picking corn.Yes pick corn, finally dried out to finish. He said it drove straight as an arrow down the road. Thanks again for your help. That seems like alot of money for a 5-10 minute job. All you do is chuck the gear in a lathe and make one cut with the crossfeed.

Assuming you have no friends with a lathe, you should think about getting the kids at your local voke school to help you out. Either give it to the instructor and he will get it done for no cost, or give it to a student off campus and give him a $20 tip. Any student will do. If he is not taking the marchine shop course, one of his friends will be.
