100 fuel bowl leakage - a fix

I took the fuel bowl lever off of the bowl, and used teflon rope (plumbing supply house) to gasket the lever you twist to open or shut off the fuel. I carefully inserted a 5/8 inch length into the nut that holds the lever. Looks like it may hold fuel. The lever was dripping onto my new paint job and bubbling the paint.

Will this fix work long term ?

That should work i have used thin cotton string and it worked. The new paint will make them leak. Just seems like new paint can find a leak somewhere after you think you have all leaks fixed.
