Buying a Farmall H

I have a friend who has 1941-1944 H, (I cant remember the exact year)he wants to sell me, the tractor is in a shed but its kinda in rough shape no rust but some mechanical issues none that I cant handle. The tractor hasent run for about 13 years he told me, the engine is not locked up the transmission is free as I have checked both my self. The tractor belonged to his father and his wife wants him to sell it for scrap and I want to save it. The tractor comes with a front mounted rip saw,and a full set of cultivaters(less hydraulic cylinders for the cultivaters)other than that the H is complete. How hard would it be to find emplements for this tractor and how much do I start at offering him a price for it? He knows my intentions for this tractor is to get it running and use it. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I payed 1000 for my 1942 H running. I paid 150 for a buzz saw on my WD45. The cultivators I dont really know but I would guess maybe 300 or so. Buy it H are all over and parts all over infact they were the most produced tractor ever. They are fun and they will work hard too. I would guess that it would be worth maybe about 1000 for all of it but it depends on a lot where you are at and in all reality they are only worth what someone will pay. Have fun!

As has been said before a lot depends on things like condition of tires, sheet metal etc as well as the mechanical things you mentioned. I would look around on here and on your local Craigslist as pricing is somewhat regional. If I were in your shoes I might offer $500 if I wasn't afraid of offending the guy.

If his wife wants him to scrap it then weigh in and weigh out and pay $230/ton. That is the going price in WI right now. Truthfully that is about all it is worth. I paid $800 for my running, bad rear tires, and avg sheet metal H. They are not that popular and there are a ton of them. A lot of guys feel they are too small to do the real work and I may agree with them. I perfer the M myself, but the H is handy for a few things.

Implements are a dime a dozen for an H. Any one or two bottom plow will work as well as smaller discs, quack diggers. A lot of the stuff you find in fence rows will work just fine. There wern't many H only attatchments made (not like a Cub or fast hitch etc) Buy it up and good luck! BTW, it is kind of cool bc it was a war model. I am not sure if they changed anything on them, but mine didn't come with rubber tires bc of the war. They are worth a hair more, but not enough to worry about.

Noticed one listed a few days ago for $700... looked real good, but engine had been stuck for a short time.

Not running and mechanical issues... No more than $500.

The wife wants it scrapped. That's scrap price and then some. An H weighs about 2 tons bare. Some of that weight is tires, which do not count against the $230/ton scrap price.

Sorry Jay.. Ford's N series beat the H/Super H totals by over 100,000. Just the 8N produced over 500,000 and the H/Super H just broke the 400,000 total.
