looking for a cub

I have never owned a cub but am looking to purchase one. Are there any unique problems to look for? These forums have been a big help to me with my other tractors and I am sure there are some words of wisdom out there to help with my search for a cub. Thanks

If you are buying a cub to mow your grass, and you want to put a 60" mower on it, I would advise against it. If you want to plow and cultivate your garden they are a great little tractor.

I know there is a lot of cubs configured with a belly mount mower. What's the problem; Power, no live power?

There are a few unique problems to look for before purchasing a Cub. Farmallcub.com has a listing of common problem areas.

They have two different sections for someone looking for a Cub. Some Cubs are listed on the forum and then there are links to Craigslist Cubs.

One problem I run into is that, like many small tractors, they are popular and everything that goes on, under, or behind one cost a lot.

I have a 51 Cub
I tried to mow with it and the Woods mower was to big for the Cub HP
I plow snow with it and its great for that
Plowing the garden the Cub is great
It pulls the 1 bottom plow well
There is a great site for the Cubshttp://www.farmallcub.com/phpBB2/index.php?sid=3af310df835413a58e8259ebb91af5bb
the guys on there will help alot

a cub in good shape will handle a 59" deck with no problems
lack of live power takes getting used to however most older tractors are that way
my 62 LoBoy will mow in third gear if you can stand it
a lot of Cubs are worn enough that they can't pull the 59" deck but willl handle a 42" deck ok
farmallcub.com for info
good luck

What people fail to keep in mind is that these tractors are up to 63 years old, and most of them are well used. There are a lot of Cubs out there that could really use some engine work to get them back up to snuff.

As long as the engine isn't worn out a Cub will handle a PROPERLY SET UP 59" deck no problem.

The second problem is people don't set up the decks correctly. The deck needs to be at least 1/2" higher in the rear than the front, or else you're cutting the grass TWICE. Considering that you're actually cutting almost 10 feet of grass with the deck pitched the wrong way, and the Cub is still doing it, that's amazing.
