I have a WD-9 and it does not seem to be coming up to full RPM's. I have a hand held tac that you hold against the end of a shaft. Could I check the rpm's by holding on the pto shaft. Should it be 540 at full throttle or should it read higher. ANy ideas would be appricated.

It should read somewhat higher, as the full load RPM is a bit lower than High Idle. I use a strobe tach. THis is adjusted with a knob to stop (visually) a turning shaft, then tyhe Rpm is indicated on a readout. Jim

Take the kill wire off the side of mag, use a dwell tack meter, attach it where you took the wire off, run on diesel at full throttel, should run 1850 rpms. If it is too slow you have to make the adjust on the pump.

RPM specifications for WD9 series tractors:
Low idle: 450
High idle: 1665
Rated speed: 1500
Belt High idle: 785
Belt rated speed: 707
PTO high idle: 599
PTO rated speed: 540
