5488 clutch pedal

When you push the clutch pedal down on our 5488 it stays down and you must use your foot or hand to pull it back up. The return spring is still attached and still works. What are the most common remedies for this problem. Thanks in advance for all reply's.

Unhook cable to determine if problem is in pedal or cable or link at end of cable .
