Thanks for repling to my question. After removing the sector gear I can see where the gear is riding on the housing.I replaced the gear three years ago,I'll turn it half around when I put it back in.Just trying to determine how much of the gear I should have the machine shop remove.Any suggestion? Thanks Brian

See my response in the prior post. It should not rub unless some factor is the cause. If all other factors are OK, take .050" off at a time from the bottom only. Jim

You said the bolster shaft was replaced in the other post. If you put another one in, the reason I asked where it came from is because. If you got one for a early H tractor to use in the 300 that could be the problem. Different shafts were used with a couple different thrust bearings and no spacer used in early ones.
If no problem is found and you have a narrow front, its not that critical on material removed from bottom hub of sector gear. Only time gear will contact housing is when front bounces up.
I just carefuly remove material with a grinder and sometimes put a hardened shim washer under gear if to much up and down play results. About the only time I needed to remove material from sector hub was after the gear was run loose on the splines and worn. After they were worn the gear would go down more and bottom out on housing before getting tight on tepered splines.
