1947 Farmall H Carburetor

Here's my problem guys just bought my grandfathers H back after 24 yrs and it wasn't running yesterday, wasn't getting spark, cap to magneto wire was shot, got timing corrected, it was off by a tooth, and now can't seem to keep it running without the choke on 3/4 of the way, tore the carb apart and cleaned it all up and replaced old gas with new as the gas was stale, need to know where the IH D10 carburetor main jet and idle air jets need to be set. I have an I&T shop service manual but no specific adjustments. Can someone at least get me close to where I need to be so that I can get it fine tuned???? Thank a million!

Ok, that didn't work, I am hearing air passing through the drip hole filler, what purpose is this? I had it running with it plugged, but after I took my finger off of it and went to the other side, it quit and can't get it started again. The I&T manual says to inspect the drip hole filler and renew the filler if it is not in good condition. This has me stumped. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Remove the carb, completely disassemble, soak in real carb cleaner overnight, blow out all ports with compressed air, and put an IH kit in it. The kit should include the drip hole parts, but I am not sure, CaseIH can get them. Initial settings are 2.5-3.0 for the main jet and 1-1.5 for the idle mixture. With the engine hot, set the idle speed screw and idle mixture screws so that it idles smoothly. At wide open throttle turn the main jet screw in until the engine stumbles, then out until smooth plus maybe a quarter turn more. Retard the throttle and rapidly advance. If the engine does not accelerate smoothly, repeat the adjustments. That should do it unless your carb is extremely corroded.

OK guys, I have followed all of your suggestions and it still will not run without 3/4 choke. We set the adjustments back to original settings and still have to have the choke on?? Any more suggestions??

Did you ever check to see if you are getting fuel TO the carburetor? Is the sediment bowl clean? Is the sediment bowl sut-off opened all the way? Is there junk in the gas tank that is obstructing the flow of fuel?

I emptied and clean the tank of old gas and I am getting an excellant flow to the carb, the sediment bowl is clean and actually put a new screen in, is open all the way, tank looks new inside... I have good compression also, has to be something simple, just can't figure it out... Whats the chances of the clog being in the intake manifold? We are getting draw but not enough obviously. Tractor sat for seven yrs inside dry barn.... thanks for the suggestions at this point I'll look at anything a second and third time.
