What are these bottoms called? IHC plow (pic)

These bottoms are on a 2-12 little genius that we drug out of the trees. They seem to be a bit different than I have seen on the few other little Genius plows that I've been near.

I would call them Syracuse bottoms on a Deere, but what would IHC call them? They have a replaceable point at the tip of the share and also have a replaceable shin which seems to be ahead of it's time.

Are these bottoms for heavy clay?

Those are plow chief bottoms, International made them during the 1950s. The front landside is alwayas shorter than the rear one.

Plow Chief! NOT "super chief". I just bought 2 brand new points from Agri Supply. Parts are tough to find and expensive when you do. Mold board is $261.00 from the CIH dealer near me. Mine has been broken and welded. I believe I'll tolerate the weld.

That is the RSPC, a Plow Chief with the replaceable shin. Plow Chief was made 1950 to 1960, don't know when specifically the replaceable shin showed up. Advertising literature called it the "all-speed, all-purpose moldboard". I would say the replaceable shin Plow Chief is not terribly common.

Thanks for the help guys! So they are "Plow Chief" bottoms. Luckily nothing is very worn except for the share. The points, shins and moldboards are in good shape.

We pondered trying to use it, but I'm afraid there will be quite a few hours of work on those moldboards before it would ever shed. We havent gotten that far yet.

Thanks again for the help.

You'll be alright. I used a 4.5" grinder with the wire cup wheel on my three bottom and it was useable within 30 min. I still had a few spots that caught, but the overall thing was good. When I was in the field I used a long handled grill scraper to scrape the film off at the end of the row to keep/get it scouring. It was perfect after the 2 acres I plowed.

IHCPloughman pretty well nailed it. There were 3 variations of the Plow Chief bottom (with a point separate from the rest of the share).

PC - Plow Chief (one piece moldboard) - 1950-1960
PCS - Plow Chief Slat Moldboard (replaceable shin) - 1950-1970
RSPC - Plow Chief Replaceable Shin - 1954-1970

After you wire brush them, if you can get in some sandy soil, they will scour within a very short time.... in clay, it will take a while.
