Hydraulic Assembly leaking

I have just finished restoring a 1950 Super A. everything is
great except one of the pistons in the Hydraulic Assembly is
leaking from one of the larger drives. I have replaced all the
gaskets and O-rings twice and it is still leaking significantly.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also I am not getting and reading on the heat indicator and have
tried two brand new water temp gauges and sending units.
Several Ole timers tell me it takes a lot to get the Super A hot. I
never remember it doing this and I have had her 30 years. Ran
it for an 90 mins the other day in 80 degree temp and still no
reading on the gauge. Just find that hard to believe that I have
no reading.

If you had the radiator cleaned and the block hot tanked, you simply have better water circulation. And the heat sensor is mounted on the lower (cold) side of the radiator, after it has cooled the coolant. My Super A came without a gauge, but during my "restoration", I am using a C123 upper connection, thus mine will be on the head exit (hot) to the radiator. I don't have an answer for the leak, I am doing the second one of those. I disassemble and put a IH kit in, if you used aftermarket o-rings, perhaps they are a tad smaller, of maybe the sleeves are scored.

Put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to see if it heats up.

Hi, Mark.

I don't know if an A is supposed to have a thermostat, but my 350 Utility's radiator cap was cool to the touch after 45 minutes of driveway work (and the engine block felt almost cold). The thermostat was broken so it woulndn't close.

No sleeves, should have said the bore could be scored--I don't think that is likely unless the orings were destroyed leaving metal to metal.
