Farmall 400 Hydraulics

Just replaced some hydraulic lines on the loader on my 400. Afterwords the loader sputtered a little but now none of my hydrulics will work. Engine is not bogging down when any levers are moved like it used to. Am guessing the system is air locked somewhere. Have run the tractor for about a half hour while moving the levers back and forth. Other than the pump getting hot, nothing happened. Any halp or tips for purging the system would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Yes. Hydraulic fluid is full and resevoir screen/filter is clean. Small screen inside the pressure regulator block is also clean and everything inside that is free and seems as though it should be working properly.

They do get air locks easily.
Drive it into a ditch or loading ramp so the front is 18 to 30" down hill from the rear.
Use a tier pump, or air tank with regulator, to pressurize the reservoir to about 20psi. Then run it and operate all levers. There might be a priming hole (setscrew looking port in the top of the pump) some have it some do not. Jim

You will need to add some extra fluid to fill the hoses. You might try cracking open a little the return hose(s) to bleed off some air. Then shut it down and tighten it back up.

Thanks for the tip on pressurizing the reservior. Worked like a charm!!! Also got the spare reservior plumbed and everything is working great! With a little luck I can get the power steering, wide front and 3-point on tomorrow.
