What are Lustron's IH planter codes?

What do the codes on the lustron IH planter plates, stand for. For instance the code C7-16. I know the C stands for IH and the 16 means it has 16 cells. But what does the #7 and other numbers right behind the "C" stand for?

Recently got two Farmall 140's with all sorts of implements and other stuff. Trying to put something together to plant a couple acre garden. Want to plant southern peas, large and small lima beans, okra, snap beans and corn. I already have two plates for corn, large and small kernels.

Finally have it all figured out and ready to go except needing some plates for the IH 180 planter. Found some plates for sale on ebay but can't find out what numbers I need. Problem is I'm a retired Navy Chief that was raised in the city. Never saw any Farmalls in the Navy or in the city.

Called AG Products and they can't tell me anything except to send the seeds off to Colorado to get them sized. Don't have time for that.

Need some help to get the right plates. Thanks

Just the numbering system. You should be able to find a chart of plate numbers and corresponding cell shape and size at various places around the net.

OB, I have no clue as to their numbering/coding system. BUT, I have chart that I got from www.lincolnagproducts.com that tell what size the seed pockets are on all their plates. For example, the seed pocket on the C7-16 is 38/64 long, 12/64 deep, 20/64 thick. This chart also says it's for corn and it's light green (even the color means something). I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, I hope I'm not confusing you. I had to have help too, I'm just trying to pass it along. Todd

There used to be a planterplate chart on the backside of the seed corn bags and on the tag or flap on the bag should be the plate suggestion to start with. These are usually the lustran numbers. If I remember right the C697-24 and B6- 24 plates are for a medium flat kernel. The numbers that start with the letter "C" are IH and the "B" are for Deere and a few others.

OB,
I was in the seed corn business for over 30 yrs, starting in the 1960s.
Search for my lengthy info on this very subject on the "Implement Alley" forum. I wrote it on April 3, 2009.
If you can't find it, or need more help, let me know. Glad to help you.

Seems I lied about the date of my planter plate info....it's April 5, 2009 on the Implement Alley pages. Sorry to mislead.
