is it possible to mount a 281 gas motor out of a 450 to an engine stand? i am wanting to do a complete over haul on it and it would be nice to turn the motor around as i do it

Yes it is possible. You may need different mounting brackets but it is very easy to do. It makes the engine alot easier to work on.

most engine stands are universal/fit all combinations.they have flexible 'arms'that bolt to your particular application.make sure the stand hasa enough capasity to hold a haevy engine

Are you talking about this stand? The later ones have an additional brace between the wheels at on the outer ends that allows another "L" shaped support to be added to support an engine from both sides or ends.

These are the universal brackets that I use. I mount the engine on the flywheel end after removing the flywheel.

This is the current version that replaces the original "V" style stands. Do a search for "OTC-1735A" for more information.

I have a 450 and m motor mounted on standard auto engine stands sitting in the building right now and they bolted right up to them.
