Early M wide front end

Hello. I have a 1943 M with a wide front end. It looks like it is adjustable. I have saw newer ones with holes in the top of the outer tube. Mine is just solid. What is the difference of the early and later style front ends. It looks like an automotive front end. Please let me know what you all think. THANKS

If it is a stock IH front (pictures would do a world of good) it might be narrowed enough that the pinch bolt holes are not visible on the exposed tube. There will be tierods on the front of the axle, and it sticks out pretty far to the front. Some were set back with an adapter to shorten the tractor and make it handier. Jim

Think they put the pin holes in center tube and extension starting sometime in 1946. Since wide fronts were considered a attachment a certain type could end up on other year tractors.

In the picture it looks like the the inter and outer tubes have been welded together for desired width setting.--- WOK
