Correct Spark Plugs for a Farmall M

I am getting ready to give my recently purchased Farmall "M" a tune up. Do any of you "Farmall Guys" out there have a recommendation as to which brand of Spark Plugs to use? Does any one brand seem to work better than the others in this tractor? If you have a brand recommendation, specifically which plug would you use? Currently it has Champion, D18Y plugs in it. Thank you for any response!

The one you have in there is fine. If you will be using it less than what it was before, I may go with the hotter D21. Personally I use Autolite, but that's a personal preference. The cross for the D21 would be 3116 Autolite.

Dave I believe the Champion D21 crosses to an Autolite 386.
I think for normal use the Champion D15Y was the plug which crosses to an Autolite 3116 per Autolite.

I have had better success with Autolites than Champions.

If it has a magneto, 3116's
If it has battery ignition, 386's, and if you want to go little hotter, 387's.

Just my opinion, others may see things differently.

I have an m, a couple SMs, & a SMTA that I play around with & use on augers. I was always a Championperson but the last few years their plugs seem like crap & always were fouling. Friend advised I switch over to the Autolite 386s & several on Redpower Forum suggested the same so I did. That cut bck on fouling but didn't eliminate it as much as I thought it should. I had the partsman at the local auto parts store call Autolite & ask them which plug they recomend. According to their(Autolite's) tech guy he said that the 3116s were the correct plug for the IH 4cylinder engines with todays gas & that the 386s were for the 6 cylinder engines. I switched my old letter series tractors over to 3116s. That was over two years ago & haven't fouled a plug in them since.
